If Pengo pushes a side wall the water "vibrates", any adjacent Sno-Bees will be briefly stunned, and are eliminated (for 100 points) if Pengo walks over them in this state. Eggs can be eliminated by crushing the ice blocks that contain them. At the start of each level, blocks that contain these eggs are briefly identified by flashing the color of that level's Sno-Bees. There are a total of sixteen levels, which repeat in order starting on the seventeenth round.Īs the player crushes those on patrol, new Sno-Bees hatch from eggs located within ice blocks. Crushing more than one Sno-Bee at once will increase the number of points awarded. Pressing the button while pushing the joystick will cause Pengo to push forward the ice block he is facing, which will slide until it hits a wall or another ice block, crushing any intervening Sno-Bees. The player uses a joystick and a single button as controls. The objective of the game is for Pengo to survive a series of rounds by eliminating all Sno-Bees, while amassing bonuses by bringing together the three diamonds dispersed in the maze. The game takes place in an overhead maze made of ice blocks, where Pengo fights the patrolling, blob-like Sno-Bees. The player controls Pengo, a red penguin that resides in the Antarctic. In Pengo! up to 8 players can play as Pengos of all colours with player 1 retaining the red and green colour scheme.Pengo (ペンゴ?) is an arcade game developed by Coreland and published by Sega in 1982.To obtain him they must raise a Cartritchi with above average care. In Sega Saturn de Hakken!! Tamagotchi Park, players can raise a Pengo tamagotchi known as Pengotchi. His 3D model can be found within the game's files still however. Pengo was due to make his first 3D appearance in Sonic the Fighters, appearing as a background element in Bark the Polar Bear's stage but was cut during production.Flicky also appears in this context alongside Pengo. Pengo makes another cameo in Teddy Boy Blues during Teddy Boy's bonus game where he will appear as one of the many targets.Notably he has yellow wings, beak and feet here. Pengo makes a cameo in Champion Boxing where he will walk across screen and hold up a sign saying KO if the player successful knocks out their opponent.Pengo is notable as one of the first big video game successes for Sega, partially due to the cuteness of the graphics and character of Pengo.Once every Sno-Bee is destroyed, Pengo will move on to another level. Pengo's home has been infested with Sno-Bees, a sort of strange blob like monster with cone like noses, and it's upto Pengo to defend it by crushing the invading creatures with blocks of ice, smashing unhatched Sno-Bee eggs and running away from the angry monsters. In Pepenga Pengo the character wears a red bow tie, blue feathers, blue wings and yellow feet, being redesigned in this title to look far more like Overbite or Adelie from the Doki Doki Penguin Land series than the famous red Pengo appearance. Some artwork kept the green wings such as the Sega Game Gear's box art of the character, with the sprite being more widely known than the official artwork for the character, being featured on the Xbox's cover In his game sprite, Pengo has his beak, wings and feet coloured green instead of yellow and he lacks his bow tie and buttons are missing. In his arcade appearances, the artwork for the character included a big purple bow tie alongside a dicky to help him look like he was wearing a tuxedo, as well as yellow wings, feet and a beak.
